Great winds rolling seas

Looks a bit rolly out there, but not too bad.  Wave height on this chart is in meters.  Maybe about 9-12 foot seas, 15 knot winds.  Ted apparently 'fed the fish' yesterday afternoon.  Hope he's feeling better.

Captain's Log May 12 1430hrs

We're away - tanks full, spirits high.

Currently sitting 36 59/76 12W

We'll be in Bermuda sometime Tuesday. Our weather route posted below for those that are interested in following.

Cheers,

Summary:

1) The big storm in the Atlantic continues to mill around

  a) it is located close to 37 30n/63w

2) The low will drift to the S and SSE over the next 24 hours

3) Most of the stronger wind is staying off to the E of the area

  a) reports show a big increase in wind around and to the E of 74w

4) Will have a NE to ENE wind for departure with the wind trending more left, backing, as you get further offshore

  a) wind speeds 10-15 kts tonight

5) The low will be around 34-35n/61 30w Fri

  a) stronger flow will edge further to the E as the low moves slowly E and weakens

6) NE winds for Fri

  a) although the stronger wind will be off to the E of you, NE flow across the stream of 12-18 kts, will make for fairly rough conditions

  b) seas of 9 ft and seas may be quite steep

7) Wind then will diminish Fri night as weak ridge of high pressure from eastern Canada to the eastern US slides E and the low weakens and moves further away

8) Will have very light conditions on Sat as will be in the ridge

9) Flow will then become S Sat night and Sun

10) Low pressure will be over the eastern Ohio Valley on Sun while ridge of high pressure will be near Bermuda

11) Stronger S flow to the W of you

12) Mainly a S wind then is expected into Mon

  a) watch for the flow to back some later Mon and Tues with a more SE wind likely close to Bermuda on Tues

13) Wind speeds around 11-16 kts as you arrive in Bermuda

...and they're off!

Get in your last calls now to Code and crew by 4 pm...then it is sat phone only (which means texting as voice is very expensive).

Yipee!!!

Now the weather seems to have reversed and it will be very calm seas and light winds.  Good thing they have lots of fuel in case they have to motor.

Once in Bermuda, they will spend about 2 days touring the island, re-provisioning, and resting, then leave for the Azores.  Rob will catch a plane home from Bermuda back to Maryland.

I will update the location on the maps when I hear from Code on the satellite phone.

Williamsburg and Jamestown

Rented a car and spent the day touring Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Interesting stuff!

Learned a lot about American history today. Had some fun too. Below is Ted and Steve doing 'time' in the stockade. If you don't set an example once in awhile the crew will just get out of hand!

Still waiting...

Now the weatherman is telling us Thursday am departure.  The picture below shows the story pretty well. The Yellow area is 15 to 20 foot seas - and makes for a pretty exciting ride. We're waiting for something a little less extreme...
